US tax returns
The US is one of the only countries that taxes its citizens on their worldwide income, wherever they live. We prepare your federal, state and city returns and claim the credits and exclusions that keep what you owe as low as possible.
Whether you are a US citizen, a Green Card holder, or you simply own assets based in the USA, you are required to file a US tax return every year. Our team specialises in preparing and submitting those returns for expatriates and UK investors.
From your annual return to long-term planning, here is where our US tax team takes the weight off your shoulders.
The US is one of the only countries that taxes its citizens on their worldwide income, wherever they live. We prepare your federal, state and city returns and claim the credits and exclusions that keep what you owe as low as possible.
If your foreign accounts combined top $10,000 at any point in the year, an FBAR (FinCEN Form 114) is due. It covers bank, pension, trust and business accounts you hold or can sign on, and missing it can cost $10,000 or more per account. We prepare and file it for you.
Own 10% or more of a non-US company at any point in the year? You will likely need to file Form 5471, reporting your shareholding and the company's accounts. Filed late, incomplete or wrong, it can cost up to $10,000 per form. We prepare it accurately.
Behind on your filing? If it was not deliberate, this is the penalty-free route back: usually three years of returns, six years of FBARs and a non-willful certification (Form 14653). We manage it all, and it is normally ready in around 4 to 12 weeks.
For a US citizen in the UK, a UK investor in the US, or a business trading across both, planning ahead protects reliefs and improves your overall position. We advise on treaties, ITIN applications, residency and domicile, trusts and inheritance tax.
Living abroad gives you longer. Any tax owed is due 15 April, while your return is due 15 June on the automatic expat extension, stretching to 15 October on request. Your FBAR is due 15 October. We track every date so nothing is missed.

A few of the questions we are asked most. Whatever your situation, we will tell you exactly what applies to you.
If you are a US citizen or Green Card holder, the answer is almost always yes. We will check your situation against the IRS thresholds and tell you for certain.
With a UK bank account, or signing authority over one, you may need to file an FBAR (FinCEN Form 114). We prepare and submit it for you.
Need returns in both countries? We prepare your US and UK filings together and handle the sometimes tricky way the two systems interact.
Most UK accountants will not touch a US return, and most US preparers do not understand the UK system. Phinch sits in the rare middle ground, with US Enrolled Agents and UK Chartered Tax Advisers working side by side. And unlike firms that send compliance work offshore, we never outsource. Every return is prepared in-house by our own team. Established 2016, looking after clients across London and the rest of the UK.
Federally licensed to prepare returns and act before the IRS
US and UK returns handled together, never bounced between firms

Just incredible. So responsive, detailed but without losing you with technical jargon, and really answered my questions. Will recommend time and time again. Simply the best.
Phinch is a fantastic company. Especially David Parmenter and Sebastian Hassan-Ally, who are responsive, proactive and very good at what they do. I am very pleased I engaged this team.
Highly professional and approachable, always at the end of the phone if we have had any questions. Would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
